Bacolod Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc and Rotary Club turned over to Dona Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School the three- classroom building last Wednesday, February 24, 2010.

The Mangrove Ecotourism Area at Brgy. Balaring, Silay will be inaugurated at 10:30 am Feb. 19 by Mayor Jose L. Montelibano and Dir. Yorihisa Goto of IKAW-AKO Japan-Negros partnership for Environmental Protection.

The 50-hectare area maintained by the Silay City Government and IKAW-AKO in cooperation with Balaring Mangrove Planters Association (BAMPA) and Balaring Barangay Council features a 500-meter bamboo bridge, cottages and a 30-foot watch tower.

The Silay City Government led by Mayor Jose Montelibano and Vice Mayor Mark Golez spearheads the welcome party for the arrival of His Grace Edward Joseph Adams, the Papal Nuncio to the Philippines on Feb. 18.

Montelibano and Golez will be joined in at the Silay airport by Bishop Vicente Navarra and the Friends of Tourism from Silay City.

The Papal Nuncio will be extended the official Silay Medallion of Hospitality and leis from the different sectors welcoming him.

John Ver Pacete and Jessa Ren will be crowned King and Queen of Hearts 2010 at Silay covered court on Feb. 18 (Thursday; 1:30 pm).

Zenia Billones, principal of Silay North Elem. School, said that this activity is designed to promote peace and understanding among the pupils in celebration of Hearts’ Month in February.

Silay City Government through the Silay Tourism Office and Hugyaw Silay Inc. are sponsoring “Saludo” in Silay City on Feb. 17 – 19, 2010.

“Saludo” is a multi-media and multi-disciplinary presentation on the life and works of the Philippine National Artists with special focus on the National Artists from the Visayas.

The four-day medical mission hosted by Silay City Kansilay Lions Club and the local government of Silay City benefited more than 5,000 Negrenses. Forty one volunteer workers of the Alexandria Asian American Lions Club based in Washington, D.C., participated in this charitable endeavor.

“A Homecoming Love Offering” a concert of duo pianists, Della Gamboa Besa and Anamaria Gergorio de Guzman, will be presented at Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center on Feb. 12 (3 pm., matinee) and Feb. 13 (6pm, gala).

The concert is sponsored by the Catholic Women’s League (CWL)- Silay City Unit under the Steering Committee headed by Evalyn Tan, Maria Rosa Gamboa, Ruska Gamboa and Linda Ledesma.

Proceeds of the project will assist the Parish of San Diego in the parochial catechetical program which covers 29 elementary schools in Silay City.

Silay City will co-host an episode of the show, “Balik-Bayan” on Q Channel 11 hosted by Sheryl Cruz, actress-singer.

Q TV will feature “Negros Occidental: The Sugar Capital of the Philippines”, which will showcase the industry of the province, tourist spots and other tourism-related attractions.

Dr. Sohei Takatsuki, executive managing director of International Education Center and Co. Ltd., donated 200 plastic chairs to Doña Montserrat Lopez Mem. High School and Don Albino and Doña Dolores Jison Integrated School and provided school supplies and reading materials to the pupils of DMLMHS – Patag Extension Class.

The administrators of three schools – Principal Wilfredo Hermosura, Principal Salvacion Senayo and Head Teacher Laila Rando, thanked Dr. Takatsuki during the turn over ceremonies held in their schools.
