Travel Time Magazine
Silay City, the seat of arts, culture and tourism, will be featured in the January 2012 special issue of Travel Time Magazine published by Susan Calo Medina.
Travel Time Magazine writers Celina Cruz, Donald Tapan and Ricky Lopez are here in Silay to feature the house of Dr. Jose CortezaLocsin, Balay Negrense Museum, mansion of Ramon Hofilena, Don Bernardino and Dona Ysabel Jalandoni ancestral house, and San Diego Pro-Cathedral.
Neil Solomon Locsin said that the Locsin house played an important role in the social growth and economic development of Silay because in 1840 Fr. EusebioLocsin was responsible for inviting his relatives and friends from Iloilo to establish haciendas in Silay.
Balay Negrense, the house of Victor Gaston, serves as an open book which showcases the lifestyle and cultural heritage of the Silaynons through fashion, food, intellectual acumen and passion for heroism.
The Hofilena and Jalandoni house feature art collection, rare species of antiquity, turn-of-the century pieces of furniture, volumes of old books, and vital documents of history.
San Diego Pro-Cathedral, the only pro-cathedral outside of Metro Manila, was designed by LucioBernasconi, an Italian architect.
Mayor Montelibano said that the promotion of arts and culture in Silay is part of an on-going campaign since the Department of Tourism has singled out Silay as one of the 25 major tourist destinations in the country.
Other than Travel Time Magazine, Silay City will be featured also in the second season of Two Stops Over, a 30-minute documentary lifestyle show produced by A Different Story Productions.
To be given focus in Silay City is the Hawaiian – Philippine Company, a sugar mill that produced quality muscovado, white blancodirecto and brown sugar.
Ver Pacete, tourism officer, said that the sugar mill story will also present the sugar plantation, the steam locomotives, the hacienda workers and the hacenderos based on the collective effort of the sugar industry to keep the Negrenses intact.
