Silay City will host “Panaad Lagaw Silay” for the officers of Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) headed by Dir. Edwin G. Trompeta of the Department of Tourism (Region VI) on April 6, 2011.

Trompeta said that this largest association of registered tour operators in the country which is exclusively promoting in-bound and domestic tourism is conducting a familiarization tour in Silay to update its products and packages.

Trompeta added that Silay City is a priority because it is the seat of arts, culture and eecotourism in Western Visayas, and one of the 25 major tourist destinations in the country.

The tour operators will be officially welcomed at SIlay City Airport by Ver Pacete, SIlay tourism officer; Cristine Mansinares, provincial tourism officer; and Rose Mina, president of the Association of Tourism Officers of Negros Occidental (ATONO).

Mayor Jose Montelibano said that the Friends of Tourism – Silay will introduce to the operators the various tour packages like cultural heritage tour, folklore village visit, hacienda and sugar mill trip featuring muscuvado and the steam locomotive, eco expedition in Balaring and Patag, food sortie, religious peregrination, organic farm tour and other tourist turn ons of Silay.

The Association of Tourism Officers in cooperation with Sir and Ma’am Restaurant will feature ‘Kusina Silaynon’ for the day trippers’ breakfast which include native chicken tinola, fish sinigang, lechon Silay, bangus-turismo, caldereta, alimusan paksiw and Silay Kapehan brewed coffee.

Lunch menu at Balaring Shoreline restaurants will showcase ‘Aton Ini Pagkaon’ which includes shrimp kinilaw, St. Peter’s fish sarciado, sizzling squid, gambas, buttered tangigue, steamed talaba and king’s crab chili.

Specific areas to be assessed in Silay are Blay Negrense Museum, Mon Hofilena Mansion, Jalandoni Heritage House Museum, San Diego Pro-Cathedral, El Ideal Bakery and other ancestral houses identified by the National Historical Institute.

The tour operators will also attend the Travel Exchanges (TRAVEX) session with Negros Occidental tourism front liners to be held at the Bacolod Government Center.

Imogene Canaan, Bacolod tourism officer, said that this will give opportunity to our local tour operators to establish linkages with their Manila partners.

TRAVEX will cover other concerns like new destinations, updated prices of tour packages, peace and order, quality accommodation and tourist facilities.

PHILTOA officers will be assisted by ATONO in their evening tour of Panaad Sa Negros exhibit areas and Friendship Dinner will be hosted by San Carlos City.
