3rd Mayor Oti Driver’s Cup kicks off

The 3rd Mayor Oti Driver’s Cup opened with a bang as 18 participating teams from various drivers’ cooperatives and associations will see action in the hard-court starting September 1, 2010.

Mayor Jose L. Montelibano spearheaded the opening as he delivered an inspirational message.  He stressed out the importance of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the participants as well as encouraged them to get involved in sports.  He was thankful for the Silaynons for the cooperation they have shown in his administration.  He also led the ceremonial toss that signaled the formal opening of the month-long sports spectacle.  Also present in the ceremony were Hon. Vice Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Golez who also gave a message to the players.  He urged everyone to engage in sports especially in basketball.  They were enjoined by Hon. Ireneo Celis who welcomed the participating teams.  Pastor Romeo Denuevo of the Word of Life led the Opening Prayer while Rocky Panisales, last year’s Most Valuable Player presided the Oath of Amateurism.

This basketball event is a yearly activity that attracts basketball fanatics from all over the city especially from the transportation sector.  This year’s event drew 252 participants composed of players and coaches who will strut their wares in the basketball court.  Special prizes await the winners and champions of this annual event.
